Possible to learn 2 musical instruments in a day?

Well, 60 people from Ministry of Home Affairs did it!

A year ago, we showed how we delivered an amazing team bonding activity for Microsoft. This time, we continue to deliver memorable experiences with the folks from Ministry of Home Affairs!

We conducted our Music Jam activity for 60 of their employees, where they learnt how to play 2 instruments; the Ukulele and the Cajon. Let us take you through the process of turning 60 regular people into musicians.

The set-up

The day before had we prepared sufficient Cajons Ukulele for all so as to be delivered early next morning to the venue. Once our instruments and other equipment arrived, we immediately started setting up. A final tuning of our Ukuleles so that all participants are assured a well tuned Ukulele. Then setting up our very own portable Cajon that are in their stylish bag packs. With that done, and a final set up of our audio-visual equipment, we were ready to go!

The activity

We first started with the ukulele, where most of them had zero background. 4 basic chords were taught to them before learning songs like Happy Birthday, Just The Way You Are and I'm Yours. After learning the Ukulele, it was time for lunch!

We welcomed our participants back from lunch with the Cajon activity. First it was a simple yet very enjoyable clapping activity so as to pick up on rhythm.

With the focus of team building in mind, our activities lead our participant to come together for a performance at the end. While grouping up to perform. they start to collaborate and communicate with each other even more. With each individual having different ideas, they have to not only express them clearly, they also need to work together in order to create a stunning performance so as to be the winning team.

Finale

As the clock ticks down, we went into the final segment of the day. Each group showed off their creativity and skills with gusto. It was a great performance given that many of them did not have any experience in music few hours ago! Here a video of one of the teams.
